Negative effects of garlic

Garlic, a ubiquitous ingredient that can be found in most dishes is well known for its pungent odor but what’s less known about garlic is the fact that it does come with certain side effects. It is high time that you learnt more about garlic as chances are that you have already consumed some during lunch. The problem, though is that there are more than a few papers including the one by Penn State University where the harmful effects of Garlic were published but it does not seem to have found much traction. Either way,  you may want to take a closer look at some of the negative effects of consuming Garlic.

Liver toxicity: The human liver is one of the most important organs in the human body but did you know that consuming too much garlic can actually send your liver into a tailspin? These findings have already been published by Penn State and the fact is that consuming too much garlic, cooked or raw can cause liver Toxicity. So if you are in the habit of eating too much garlic and all of a sudden you start experiencing severe abdominal cramps, then chances are high that your liver may be compromised and you need to consult your doctor right away.

Bad odor: One of the most well-known side effects of consuming garlic-laden food is the fact that it causes your breath to stink long after you had consumed it. Several studies have pointed out to the similarity between BO and garlic breath and have even tagged and identified the same chemicals in both. Eating garlic can cause your breath to stink for a long while after you have eaten garlic and even heavy brushing may not remove it right away.

Nausea: Eating garlic bulbs on the raw is a no-no on any normal day and should you attempt to do so on an empty stomach, then you need to brace yourself for a round of nausea, vomiting followed by heartburn. Not everyone has the same reaction when it comes to eating garlic bulbs in the raw but generally, it is believed that garlic oil, is the main culprit and can cause you to experience adverse reactions.

Internal bleeding: Garlic has been known to increase bleeding so if you are on blood thinning medication for various health reasons, then you would definitely want to avoid consuming garlic as it can aggravate the current condition and may even act as one of the causative factors for internal bleeding.

Gastric issues: Garlic is already known to cause episodes of nausea as a result of ingesting the same on an empty stomach. Similarly, it has a direct impact on your gastric health as well and can cause you to experience diarrhea, inflammation of the gastric membrane and much more.

These are some of the negative effects of consuming garlic which is why you need to take better care and avoid eating garlic whenever you can; additionally you may want to consult your doctor regarding the same.
